Saturday Morning Session
Come Home
Elder Clark G. Gilbert
Of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles
The Savior loves all of us and is tenderly calling for you and for me to come home.
Overview
Elder Clark G. Gilbert testifies that Jesus Christ is both Redeemer and Repairer, and that no matter how long we’ve been away or why we hesitate, the Savior keeps calling us to come home. Through real ministering visits, he shows how people return when they stop believing they must already “belong,” “measure up,” have every question answered, or resolve family traditions first. The journey home begins by reanchoring on the Savior and recognizing the Holy Ghost, while the rest of the Church helps by holding up light and “saving a seat.”
Three Key Takeaways
- 1Christ’s grace “makes up the difference”: you don’t have to be perfect to come back, do your best and let the Savior repair what you cannot.
- 2People often delay coming home for specific reasons (feeling they don’t belong, not measuring up, doubts, or family traditions), but the Lord can restore light, love, and joy even after decades away.
- 3For those trying to help loved ones return, the most effective support is to stay firm in your own covenants and then serve with patience and love, like students signaling with phone flashlights that there is still room.
Reflection Questions
- Which “reason for staying away” feels most familiar to me right now, belonging, measuring up, doubts, or tradition, and what would “coming home” look like in my actual weekly routine?
- What are the specific truths I still do believe (about the Savior, the Book of Mormon, prayer, the Holy Ghost), and how could I “anchor” in those while I work through what I don’t understand yet?
- Who in my life might be sitting in a figurative parking lot, close to the Church but anxious to step in, and what simple, inspired outreach (a note, invitation, ride, or sitting with them) could I offer?
Application Prompt
This week, choose one concrete “come home” step (attend sacrament meeting, meet with your bishop, set a temple open house/temple appointment, or start daily prayer and Book of Mormon reading) and do it on a specific day and time.
