Before Sunday: President Oaks's closing remarks

Read President Dallin H. Oaks's short closing remarks from the October 2026 general conference on the Gospel Library app. He invites everyone to study the conference talks prayerfully and act on them in faith, and he quotes the Lord's promise, "Unto him that receiveth I will give more." Ponder this: which conference message do you most want to receive more fully this season?

Pick one opening

Opening question

Think back to the conference talks you heard. Which line or idea has stayed with you since then? Take a moment, then let's hear a few. Then think about this: a week or a month from now, what would help that message still be shaping how you live?

Teach this first

Receiving the Lord's words so He can give more

President Oaks invited everyone to study the conference talks prayerfully, ponder them, and act in faith on the principles they teach. He tied that invitation to the Lord's promise that whoever receives what He gives will be given more. To receive the Lord's words means more than hearing them; it means studying them, praying about them, and living them, so the Lord can trust us with more light.

President Oaks invited all "to study and ponder them prayerfully and to act in faith on the principles they explain," then quoted the Lord: "Unto him that receiveth I will give more."
— President Dallin H. Oaks

Ask the class

  • 1.What is the difference between hearing a conference talk and receiving it, the way President Oaks describes?
  • 2.When have you acted on something a prophet or apostle taught and then found the Lord gave you more understanding or strength?

If time remains

Truth and the covenant path in the restored Church

President Oaks testified that this is the restored gospel of Jesus Christ and that truth is found in His Church, including truth about the covenant path that leads to the destiny Heavenly Father wants for us. Conference teachings help us see that path more clearly.

Ask the class

  • 1.How have the teachings of this conference helped you see the next step on the covenant path for you or your family?

Counsel together

Quorum / Relief Society business

  • •How can our quorum or Relief Society help each other keep studying and acting on conference talks over the next six months?
  • •Who in our ward might enjoy going with us to the Salt Lake Temple open house or watching the virtual tour, and how could we invite them?

Last 3–5 minutes

Close

This week, pick one conference talk, read it slowly with a prayer before you start, write down one principle it teaches, and do one specific thing to act on it before next Sunday.

The Lord promised, as President Oaks reminded us, that to those who receive what He gives, He will give more. President Oaks also blessed members and their families with peace and contentment and blessed their service of Jesus Christ in challenging times.

Your witness: Share a time you acted on a prophet's counsel and the Lord gave you more, or share what you know about Jesus Christ and the truth found in His restored Church.
