Sunday Afternoon Session
Closing Remarks
President Dallin H. Oaks
President of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints
As we look forward, we are welcoming the world, in person or virtually, to the Salt Lake Temple Celebration.
Overview
President Dallin H. Oaks closed general conference with a short set of remarks. He asked members to study the conference talks with prayer and to act on what they teach, and he quoted the Lord's promise, "Unto him that receiveth I will give more." He announced that the Salt Lake Temple will open to the public on April 5, 2027. This will be the first public opening since the temple was dedicated in 1893. A video series called Dedicate is beginning, and it will later include a virtual tour of the temple. He ended by asking the Lord to bless members and their families with peace and contentment, and by testifying that truth about the covenant path is found in the restored Church of Jesus Christ.
Three Key Takeaways
- 1Conference is not finished when the sessions end. President Oaks asks members to study and ponder the published talks prayerfully and then act in faith on the principles they teach. The Lord's promise, "Unto him that receiveth I will give more," means that acting on what you have received is how you receive more.
- 2On April 5, 2027, the Salt Lake Temple will open to the public, which has not happened since 1893, 134 years earlier. People everywhere are invited to take part in person or online through TempleSquare.org, the Temple Square app, the Dedicate video series, and a coming virtual tour.
- 3President Oaks blesses members and their families with peace and contentment. He also blesses their service of Jesus Christ, and he names the present as challenging times. He testifies that the restored Church teaches the truth about the covenant path that leads to the destiny Heavenly Father wants for His children.
Reflection Questions
- Which conference talk or principle stayed with you most, and what would it look like to act on it in faith instead of only remembering it?
- When have you found that living a truth you already had prepared you to receive more from the Lord?
- Where in your service to Jesus Christ right now do you most need the peace and contentment President Oaks promised, and what keeps you on the covenant path when times are hard?
Application Prompt
This week, choose one published conference talk, study it prayerfully, write down one principle it teaches, and act on that principle in a specific way before Sunday.
