This class in one line

The Lord knows exactly where each of us is and loves us before He asks anything of us, so we can set righteous goals with confidence that He will guide us toward them.

Skip walking through all seven suggested practices one by one; name them briefly and let members choose one, and leave the GPS story for the opening only if you don't use the Mark 10 account.

Sunday: God knows your exact location

This Sunday we will discuss Sister Andrea Muñoz Spannaus's talk "God Is at Your Side." She was speaking to young women, and her counsel fits every one of us. Before class, read the thirteenth article of faith and Mark 10:17–21. Ponder: what is one good thing you want in your life that you have not yet asked Heavenly Father to help you with?

Pick one opening

Opening question

Read the thirteenth article of faith together, or have someone read it aloud. Then ask: "When you were young, what did you hope your life would hold? What do you still hope for now?" Give the class a moment to think before anyone answers. Sister Spannaus made a list like this as a young woman, and she invites all of us to make one.

Teach this first

The Lord knows where we are and loves us first

Sister Spannaus taught that the Lord knows our gifts, our questions, our loneliness, and our weaknesses, and that knowing everything about us does not make Him love us less. In Mark 10:21, before Jesus told the rich young man what he lacked, He looked at him and loved him. Because the Lord loves us first, we can bring Him our goals and our weaknesses without fear, and He patiently guides us toward the righteous desires of our hearts.

Sister Spannaus taught that the Lord "knows everything. And knowing everything about you does not make Him love you less."
— Sister Andrea Muñoz Spannaus

Ask the class

  • 1.Read Mark 10:21 together. Why do you think it matters that Jesus loved the young man before He told him what to change?
  • 2.How does knowing the Lord sees your real situation, not where you think you should be, change the way you pray about your goals?

If time remains

Small daily practices keep us close to the Spirit

Sister Spannaus offered seven practices, including taking the sacrament humbly, daily repentance, studying the scriptures to know God's character, protecting sleep, limiting phone use, and seeking faithful friends. She invited listeners to let the Spirit help them choose one to focus on for the next few weeks.

Ask the class

  • 1.As you look at her seven suggestions, which one do you feel the Spirit pointing you toward right now, and why?

Counsel together

Quorum / Relief Society business

  • •Who in our quorum or Relief Society may be feeling alone or discouraged right now, and how can we help them feel that the Lord is at their side?
  • •How can we encourage faithful friendships among our members, especially those who are new or less connected?

Last 3–5 minutes

Close

This week, read the thirteenth article of faith and write your own list of righteous aspirations, then choose one of Sister Spannaus's seven practices to work on over the next few weeks.

Sister Spannaus taught that as we keep our covenants, the Holy Ghost will be our constant companion, and that the Lord has promised to lead us by the hand.

Your witness: Think of a time you felt the Lord knew exactly where you were, perhaps when you felt lost or discouraged. Share briefly what happened and what it taught you about His love.
