Sunday Morning Session

Choose Jesus Christ as Your Guide

Elder Edward B. Rowe

Of the Seventy

I need Jesus Christ to be my guide through life’s journey amid its spiritual land mines. All of us do.

Overview

Elder Edward B. Rowe compares following Jesus Christ to carefully walking behind a trusted guide through a former war zone filled with hidden land mines. His message is that life also has “spiritual land mines,” and we need the Savior as a personal guide who invites everyone to come, follow, and return. As we stay on the covenant path through temple worship, the sacrament, prayer, scripture study, and ministering, we learn to trust Him more. And when we are injured by sin or weakness, Christ can heal us as we repent with real intent.

Three Key Takeaways

  • 1Like walking in a guide’s footsteps through an area with unknown land mines, discipleship requires deliberately following Jesus Christ’s example, “Where he goes, you go. Where he steps, you step”, because dangers aren’t always visible ahead of time.
  • 2Christ’s invitation is both constant and inclusive (“he denieth none”): no one needs to walk alone, and the Savior’s call to “come, follow me” applies wherever you are and whatever your past has been.
  • 3The covenant path is how we “walk with” Christ day to day: we connect to Him and grow trust in Him through faith, repentance, covenants, and repeated holy practices (temple, sacrament, prayer, scriptures, ministering), and when we fall short, His Atonement provides real healing as we return and repent.

Reflection Questions

  • Where do I sense “spiritual land mines” right now, patterns, places, or pressures where one misstep could hurt my faith or relationships, and what would it look like to follow Christ’s footsteps more carefully there?
  • Which part of the Savior’s invitation do I need most this week: “come,” “follow,” or “return,” and what specific change would show I’m accepting it?
  • In the talk’s list of covenant-path practices (temple, sacrament, prayer, scripture study, ministering), which one would most increase my trust in Jesus Christ as a personal guide, and why?

Application Prompt

Choose one “holy place” practice to do more intentionally this week (sacrament preparation, temple worship, focused prayer, scripture study, or ministering) and write one sentence afterward about what you sensed the Savior guiding you to do next.
