Ministering—“That Ye Love One Another; as I Have Loved You”

Sister Kristin M. Yee

Second Counselor in the Relief Society General Presidency

Ministering is truly loving and caring for others as the Savior would. It is a way of being; it is the way of our Savior, Jesus Christ.

Overview

Sister Kristin M. Yee teaches that ministering is not a program or checklist but a Savior-like way of living, loving, noticing, and serving individuals “one by one.” Using her father’s experience with two faithful ministering brothers, she shows how steady, nonjudgmental help and temple worship can invite real change through the Spirit. She reassures those who feel inadequate or uncomfortable that as we minister by faith and by the Spirit, the Lord goes with us, provides the means, and brings healing, peace, and belonging to both the giver and the receiver.

Three Key Takeaways

  • 1Ministering can be simple, steady, and life-changing, like showing up consistently, walking with someone without judging, and helping them build their relationship with God (as the couple did for her father for three years).
  • 2We cannot fix every heartbreaking circumstance, but we can choose to love and minister as the Savior would; ministering by the Spirit invites the Savior’s healing, clarity, and purpose into lives (including our own).
  • 3Ministering is tied to covenant discipleship: we are not “released” from it, and through inspired assignments and priesthood authority/power the Lord helps us represent Him to strengthen faith, answer prayers, and ensure no one is forgotten.

Reflection Questions

  • Who is “the one” the Lord may be placing in front of me right now, and what would it look like to walk with them over time rather than try to fix them quickly?
  • When I feel hesitant to minister (awkwardness, fear of response, busyness), what specific sacrifice or choice is the Lord inviting me to make so His Spirit can enter in?
  • How have I felt peace, healing, or belonging when I have ministered in the past, and what does that teach me about how the Savior designed ministering to bless me too?

Application Prompt

Choose one person from your ministering assignment or daily circle and do one concrete act of steady care this week (visit, call, offer a ride, pray with them, or help them take one step toward the temple), then follow up once more before Sunday.
