Sunday Morning Session

Encounter at the Empty Tomb

President Dieter F. Uchtdorf

Acting President of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles

We must encounter the empty tomb, experience the reality of what it means, and, in turn, share that witness with others.

Overview

President Dieter F. Uchtdorf returns to the first Easter morning and the women who went to the tomb in grief, without expecting answers, simply out of love for Jesus Christ. Their encounter with the empty tomb teaches that Christ is not only someone who lived, He lives now, and He actively guides, comforts, and strengthens His disciples. The talk centers on two invitations from the empty tomb: “come and see” for yourself, and then “go quickly and tell” others, trusting that as we walk toward the Savior’s light even with unresolved questions, understanding and healing will come.

Three Key Takeaways

  • 1The women went to the tomb while it was still dark, not because they understood everything, but because love for Jesus Christ moved them to act; faith can begin with devotion and forward motion, not perfect clarity.
  • 2The empty tomb is a witness that Jesus Christ is risen and can be spoken of in the present tense, He lives today and is involved in the personal lives of those who follow Him, calming fears and wiping away tears.
  • 3The empty tomb gives two practical invitations: come and see (seek your own spiritual witness) and then go and tell (share that witness through missionary service and consistent, courageous, humble discipleship that often speaks louder than words).

Reflection Questions

  • When life feels “dark” or confusing, what does it look like for me to keep walking toward the Savior’s light rather than waiting until I have every answer?
  • What are the specific ways I have seen Jesus Christ be “active” in my life, guiding, comforting, or strengthening me, and how can I record those experiences as part of my witness?
  • Who in my circle (family, quorum/class, friends) might be helped this week if I “go quickly and tell” in a simple, natural way, through words, service, or both?

Application Prompt

This week, write down one personal experience that helps you know Christ lives, then share it with one person (or express it through one deliberate act of service done in His name).
