“I Will Give Away All My Sins to Know Thee”

Elder Wan-Liang Wu

Of the Seventy

We can come to know the true God the Father and gain eternal life through His Son, Jesus Christ, for the power is in us.

Overview

Elder Wan-Liang Wu shares how he first learned of a living Heavenly Father through missionaries and connects his story to King Lamoni’s father in the Book of Mormon, who prayed, “I will give away all my sins to know thee.” He teaches that eternal life is to know God, and we come to the Father only by coming unto Jesus Christ, choosing to believe, repenting, and acting with real intent. The “power is in us” to decide to change and follow the Savior.

Three Key Takeaways

  • 1Knowing God begins with a sincere desire and meekness, like King Lamoni’s father, who asked God to make Himself known and was willing to give up his sins to truly know Him.
  • 2Eternal life is to know the Father and Jesus Christ, and the only way to come to the Father is by coming unto Christ, which includes conversion, faith, repentance, obedience, and action, not just learning information.
  • 3The gospel of Jesus Christ requires change: repenting means giving up practices that conflict with God’s commandments, and that ongoing change opens the way to greater peace, hope, and purpose through the Savior’s Atonement and Resurrection.

Reflection Questions

  • What is one “astonishment” moment (a truth that has touched you) that you need to follow with a clear decision and action, as King Lamoni’s father did?
  • If you prayed, “I will give away all my sins to know thee,” what specific habit, practice, or compromise would you feel prompted to surrender first?
  • What does “coming unto Christ” look like in your daily life right now, where is it mostly knowledge, and where is it becoming faith-filled action and repentance?

Application Prompt

This week, pray in real intent like King Lamoni’s father and choose one specific sin or practice to give up, then take one concrete step of repentance (confess to God, make restitution if needed, and keep a commandment you’ve been resisting).
