Open Week 6 in App →Opening Connection (3–5 minutes)
Bring a paper heart (or draw one on the board) and scissors. Ask: “Have you ever been on a team or in a family moment where everyone worked together and it felt peaceful?”
Explain simply: This week we learn about Enoch and a people called Zion. The Lord said they were “of one heart and one mind” (Moses 7:18). Today we’ll practice what that can look like in our class and in our lives.
Scripture Discovery (10–12 minutes)
Invite children to open to Moses 7:18–19. Do a quick “partner read”: one child reads verse 18, the partner reads verse 19.
Read aloud together (or have strong readers read):
“And the Lord called his people Zion, because they were of one heart and one mind, and dwelt in righteousness; and there was no poor among them.” (Moses 7:18)
“And Enoch continued his preaching in righteousness unto the people of God. And it came to pass in his days, that he built a city that was called the City of Holiness, even Zion.” (Moses 7:19)
Ask:
- What words describe Zion? (one heart, one mind, righteousness, no poor) (Moses 7:18)
- What did Enoch keep doing? (“preaching in righteousness”) (Moses 7:19)
Then read Moses 7:53 and look for who leads Zion:
“And the Lord said unto Enoch: Look, and he beheld the Son of Man lifted up on the cross, after the manner of men; and he heard a loud voice; and the heavens were veiled; and all the creations of God mourned; and the earth groaned; and the rocks were rent; and the saints arose, and were crowned at the right hand of the Son of Man, with crowns of glory;
And as many of the spirits as were in prison came forth, and stood on the right hand of God; and the remainder were reserved in chains of darkness until the judgment of the great day.
And again Enoch wept and cried unto the Lord, saying: When shall the day of the Lord come? When shall the blood of the Righteous be shed, that all they that mourn may be sanctified and have eternal life?
And the Lord said: It shall be in the meridian of time, in the days of wickedness and vengeance.
And behold, the Lord said unto Enoch: As I live, even so will I come in the last days, in the days of wickedness and vengeance, to fulfill the oath which I have made unto you concerning the children of Noah.” (Moses 7:53)
(Teacher note: If the class is short on time, focus on the bolded sentence and identify Jesus Christ as the One who will come again.)
Core Gospel Principles (5–7 minutes)
- Zion is a people who choose unity and righteousness. The Lord called them Zion because they were “of one heart and one mind” and “dwelt in righteousness” (Moses 7:18).
- In Zion, people care for needs. In Zion “there was no poor among them” (Moses 7:18).
- Jesus Christ leads and will come again. The Lord promised, “I will come in the last days” (Moses 7:53). We prepare by living like Zion now.
Interactive Learning Activities (3 activities, different types)
Activity 1: “One Heart Puzzle” (Hands-On Craft)
Materials: Paper heart cut into 8–12 puzzle pieces (one per child), markers/crayons, tape.
Steps:
- Give each child one heart piece. Have them write their name on it.
- On the same piece, have them write one way to help our class be “of one heart and one mind” (Moses 7:18)—examples: “listen,” “include,” “share,” “forgive,” “be kind.”
- Work together to assemble and tape the heart back together on the wall/board.
Connection to scripture: As the heart becomes whole, remind them: Zion was “of one heart and one mind” (Moses 7:18).
Discussion questions:
- What made it easier or harder to put the heart together?
- What happens in a class or family when we try to be “of one heart”? (Moses 7:18)
Activity 2: “Zion Word Hunt Relay” (Game)
Materials: Paper strips posted around the room with these words/phrases: “Zion,” “one heart,” “one mind,” “dwelt in righteousness,” “no poor,” plus 2–3 distractor words (like “selfish,” “mean”). Tape.
Steps:
- Divide the class into two teams.
- One child at a time walks quickly (no running) to find a strip that matches Moses 7:18 and brings it back.
- Teams build the verse’s ideas in order (not necessarily word-for-word, but concept-by-concept).
- When finished, read Moses 7:18 again and check which strips match.
Connection to scripture: They are discovering what the Lord said Zion is like (Moses 7:18).
Discussion questions:
- Which phrase from Moses 7:18 feels most important for our class today?
- What would “no poor among them” look like for kids? (sharing, noticing someone left out) (Moses 7:18)
Activity 3: “Zion Choices Freeze-Frames” (Role-Play & Acting)
Materials: Scenario cards (simple situations written on paper).
Example scenarios (keep kid-friendly):
- Someone is alone at recess.
- Two people want the same seat.
- A classmate forgot a pencil.
- Someone gets laughed at for a mistake.
Steps:
- Choose two or three children to act out a scenario silently for 10 seconds, then “freeze.”
- Ask the class: Is this building Zion—being “of one heart and one mind” and helping there be “no poor”? (Moses 7:18)
- Let the actors “rewind” and act it again in a Zion way (include, share, speak kindly, help).
Connection to scripture: Zion actions match “dwelt in righteousness” (Moses 7:18).
Discussion questions:
- What choice showed “one heart”? (Moses 7:18)
- How did the second version feel different?
Life Application Bridge (3–5 minutes)
Point to the completed paper heart. Invite children to name one place they can build Zion this week: home, school, Primary, sports. Tie directly to the verse: we build Zion when we try to be “of one heart and one mind,” “dwell in righteousness,” and help so there is “no poor among [us]” (Moses 7:18). Explain simply: for kids, “no poor” can mean nobody left out, nobody without help, nobody feeling alone.
Testimony Time (2–4 minutes)
Ask: “Which part of Moses 7:18 do you want to try hardest this week—‘one heart,’ ‘one mind,’ ‘righteousness,’ or helping so there is ‘no poor’?” (Moses 7:18)
Invite 2–3 children to share. Then share a brief, simple testimony: The Lord truly can help us become more united and more righteous, and His words about Zion are real (Moses 7:18–19). Jesus Christ lives, and He promised, “I will come in the last days” (Moses 7:53). Because He leads, building Zion is possible.
Take-Home Challenge (1 minute)
Give each child a small paper “heart card” (or have them draw one). Challenge: Choose one action from today’s heart puzzle and do it every day this week to help your home be more “of one heart and one mind” (Moses 7:18). Encourage them to tell their family which phrase they’re practicing.
Teacher Tips
- If attention is wiggly, shorten the scripture reading and repeat Moses 7:18 often—it’s the anchor verse.
- For shy readers/learners, let them contribute by holding a puzzle piece, placing a word strip, or choosing a role-play “Zion redo” idea without acting.
