Opening Connection (3–5 minutes)
Show a small packet of seeds (or a single bean) and a simple family photo (or draw stick figures of a family). Ask: “If you only saw a list of names, would you know the story of that family?” Explain that Genesis 5 gives many names, but then we get one exciting clue about Enoch. Read: “And Enoch walked with God: and he was not; for God took him” (Genesis 5:24). Ask: “What do you think it means to ‘walk with God’?” Tell the children that Moses 6 helps us learn Enoch’s story and what God taught families from the beginning.

Scripture Discovery (8–10 minutes)

  1. Partner Scripture Hunt: Enoch’s feelings + God’s help
Have pairs read Moses 6:31–34 and look for two things:
  • What did Enoch worry about?
  • What did the Lord say to help him?

Read together Moses 6:31 and let a child point to the worry: “And when Enoch had heard these words, he bowed himself to the earth, before the Lord, and spake, saying: Why is it that I have found favor in thy sight, and am but a lad, and all the people hate me; for I am slow of speech; wherefore am I thy servant?” (Moses 6:31)

Then read Moses 6:32 and let the class listen for courage-words: “And the Lord said unto Enoch: Go forth and do as I have commanded thee, and no man shall pierce thee. Open thy mouth, and it shall be filled, and I will give thee utterance, for all flesh is in my hands, and I will do as seemeth me good.” (Moses 6:32)

  1. Find the “Walk with Me” invitation
Read Moses 6:34 and ask them to listen for what God invited Enoch to do: “And the Lord said unto Enoch: Anoint thine eyes with clay, and wash them, and thou shalt see. And put forth thy hand, and feel my side, and thou shalt also see, and I will show unto thee the world for the space of many generations.” (Moses 6:34)
Ask: “What do you notice God did? (He promised to help Enoch see and understand.) How might that help someone who feels small or scared?”

Core Gospel Principles (5–7 minutes)

  1. God calls us to do His work even when we feel weak (Moses 6:31–32).
  2. Sin can make it harder to see and hear God, but God can help us change (Moses 6:27, 34–35).
  3. The gospel of Jesus Christ was taught from the beginning—faith, repentance, baptism, and the Holy Ghost help us return to God (Moses 6:50–52).

Interactive Learning Activities (20–25 minutes total)

Activity 1: “Backpack of Hard Things” (Object Lesson)
Materials: A backpack (or bag), 4–6 small books/objects, 2 paper labels: “My Weaknesses” and “God Helps Me.”
Steps:

  1. Put books in the backpack and label it “My Weaknesses.” Ask one child to lift it with one hand.
  2. Read Moses 6:31 again and ask: “What hard feelings did Enoch carry?”
  3. Replace the label with “God Helps Me.” Read Moses 6:32.
  4. Invite the same child to lift again—then have classmates stand close and gently “support” by holding the strap (teacher supervises).
Connection: Enoch still had a job to do, but God promised help: “Open thy mouth, and it shall be filled” (Moses 6:32).
    Discussion questions:
  • “What is something hard for kids our age?”
  • “What does God promise Enoch that could help us too?” (Moses 6:32)

Activity 2: “Scripture Phrase Toss: Walk with God” (Game)
Materials: 6–8 paper strips with phrases written from today’s verses:

  • “walked with God” (Genesis 5:24)
  • “Go forth” (Moses 6:32)
  • “Open thy mouth” (Moses 6:32)
  • “I will give thee utterance” (Moses 6:32)
  • “wash them, and thou shalt see” (Moses 6:34)
  • “see” (Moses 6:34)
A beanbag (or soft ball), tape.
    Steps:
  1. Tape phrases on the wall.
  2. Children take turns tossing the beanbag at a phrase.
  3. When they hit one, they must (a) read it, and (b) say how it shows God helping Enoch “walk with God.”
Connection: Builds familiarity with the exact words God used to strengthen Enoch (Genesis 5:24; Moses 6:32–34).
    Discussion questions:
  • “Which phrase feels like a promise?”
  • “Which phrase feels like a commandment?”

Activity 3: “Footsteps to Jesus: First Principles Path” (Hands-On Craft)
Materials: Paper, pencils/crayons, scissors (optional), a picture of Jesus (or write “Jesus Christ” on a paper).
Steps:

  1. Give each child 4 paper “footprints” (or have them draw and cut).
  2. As a class, read Moses 6:52 and listen for the principles: “And he called upon our father Adam by his own voice, saying: I am God; I made the world, and men before they were in the flesh.” (Moses 6:51) and “And he said unto him: If thou wilt turn unto me, and hearken unto my voice, and believe, and repent of all thy transgressions, and be baptized, even in water, in the name of mine Only Begotten Son… and receive the gift of the Holy Ghost…” (Moses 6:52)
  3. On each footprint, children write one word: Faith, Repentance, Baptism, Holy Ghost.
  4. Lay the footprints on the floor leading to the “Jesus Christ” paper.
Connection: God taught these truths from the beginning (Moses 6:50–52).
    Discussion questions:
  • “Why do you think God taught Adam these things?” (Moses 6:50–52)
  • “Which footprint helps you most right now?”

Life Application Bridge (3–5 minutes)
Ask: “Where can you ‘walk with God’ this week—at school, at home, with friends?” Let children choose one:

  • If you feel nervous to do what’s right, remember God told Enoch: “Go forth… Open thy mouth… I will give thee utterance” (Moses 6:32).
  • If you’re trying to listen better to God, choose one gospel step from the footprints (Moses 6:52).

Testimony Time (3–5 minutes)
Invite children to hold their favorite footprint and answer one question: “Which promise from God to Enoch helps you feel brave?” (see Moses 6:32–34).
Share a simple testimony that God truly helps His children do hard things and that He taught the gospel from the beginning (Moses 6:50–52).

Take-Home Challenge
Give each child their “Footsteps to Jesus” paper. Challenge: Pick one footprint to practice daily this week, and tell a parent what you chose. Also, read together the line: “And Enoch walked with God” (Genesis 5:24).

Teacher Tips

  • For reverence during the toss game, set a rule: after each toss, everyone quietly repeats the phrase together once.
  • If some children struggle with reading, pair strong readers with developing readers during Scripture Discovery and let them “echo read” key lines like “Go forth” (Moses 6:32).
