Open Week 5 in App →Happy Opening (2 minutes): “Walking Feet!” (Music & Movement)
Materials: None
- Say: “Today we’re going to learn about a man named Enoch who walked with God.”
- Invite children to stand and do “walking feet” in place. Then freeze.
- Ask: “Can you walk softly? Can you walk happily? Can you walk like you’re going to help someone?”
Say: “Our big idea today is: God can help me do hard things.”
Simple Scripture Story (5 minutes): Enoch Feels Small, God Helps Him (Role-Play & Acting)
Materials: A simple scarf (pretend “prophet robe”) and a paper heart
Tell the story simply from the bundle: Enoch was called by God to do God’s work, and Enoch felt worried he couldn’t do it. But God helped Enoch.
- Choose one child to be “Enoch” and gently place the scarf on them.
- Give “Enoch” the paper heart and say: “Enoch wants to do what God asks, but it feels hard.”
- Ask: “How do you think Enoch felt when he worried he would fail?”
- Then say: “But God helped Enoch. God can help us too.”
Connect back: “Just like our walking feet, Enoch walked with God.”
Big Idea (repeat often)
God can help me do hard things.
Wiggle and Learn Activities (12–15 minutes total)
1) “Help Me!” Beanbag Pass (Game)
Materials: Beanbag (or soft ball)
- Sit in a circle. Pass the beanbag quickly.
- When you say “STOP,” the child holding it finishes this sentence: “God can help me when I ______.” (Examples: “share,” “say sorry,” “be brave,” “pray.”)
What to say: “God can help me do hard things.”
Connection: “Just like Enoch needed help, we do too.”
2) “Gospel Path Line” (Physical Activity)
Materials: 5 pictures (simple drawings are fine): Jesus, faith, repentance, baptism, Holy Ghost (or use printed pictures you already have)
- Lay the pictures on the floor in a line leading to a picture of Jesus Christ.
- Say: “God taught His children the gospel of Jesus Christ from the beginning.” (from the bundle’s teaching section on Moses 6:50–62)
- Walk with the children along the picture path. At each picture, say one word together: “Faith… Repent… Baptism… Holy Ghost… Jesus!”
What to say: “Heavenly Father shows me the way back to Him.”
Connection: “We’re walking—like Enoch walked with God.”
3) “My Strong Helper Hands” (Hands-On Craft)
Materials: Paper, crayons, stickers (optional)
- Trace each child’s hand (or let them draw a hand).
- On each finger, help them draw a tiny picture of a “hard thing” they want help with (sharing, listening, praying, being kind).
- Write at the top: “God can help me do hard things.”
What to say: “When something feels hard, I can ask God for help.”
Connection: “Our hands can do hard things when God helps us—like Enoch.”
4) “Walk With Me” Freeze Walk (Music & Movement)
Materials: None
- Have children walk around the room.
- When you say “WALK WITH GOD,” they freeze and put a hand on their heart.
- Ask one quick question while frozen: “What is one good thing you can do today?”
What to say: “I can choose good and God will help me.”
Connection: “We practiced our gospel path, and now we practice walking with God in our choices.”
Picture Time (3 minutes): Gospel Art Book Picture
Use: “Adam and Eve Teaching Their Children,” by Del Parson (listed in the bundle)
Ask:
- “What do you see the family doing?”
- “How do you think the children feel when parents teach them?”
- “How can our families help us do hard things?”
Tie to big idea: “Heavenly Father gives us helpers—parents and families—to help us learn and do hard things.”
Song and Actions (3 minutes): “I Will Walk with Jesus” (Children’s Songbook)
Actions:
- “Walk” with two fingers on your palm
- Point up for “Heavenly Father”
- Hands on heart for “help”
Say: “As we sing, let’s remember Enoch walked with God, and we can walk with Jesus too.”
Jesus Loves Me Moment (2 minutes)
Say softly: “Enoch had a hard job, but God helped him. God can help you too.”
Invite children to finish one sentence (one at a time, very short):
- “I know Jesus loves me because ______.”
or - “I can be like Jesus when I ______.”
Take-Home Hug (this week)
Invite: “This week, when something feels hard, stop and say a simple prayer: ‘Heavenly Father, please help me.’ Then try again.”
Teacher Survival Tips
- Keep turns lightning-fast: if a child freezes, offer two choices (“share or be kind?”).
- Alternate sit/stand every 2–3 minutes to match short attention spans.
- If energy gets too big, go straight to “Freeze Walk” to reset, then return to the next activity.
