Gather the Sunbeams in a circle with big smiles. Hold up a shiny apple or a pretty flower (or picture). Say, "Look at this beautiful thing! Who do you think made it?" Let them shout "Jesus!" Sing a quick "Jesus made the mountains..." from "My Heavenly Father Loves Me" with claps. "Today we'll learn how Jesus created our beautiful world!"
Simple Scripture Story
Use pictures from "The Creation of the Earth" in Old Testament Stories (pages 8-12). Sit on the floor with props like a ball of playdough (earth), flashlight (light), toy animals, and stick figures for people.
Tell simply: "In the beginning, Heavenly Father said, 'Let’s make a beautiful world!' Jesus helped. Day 1: Light! (shine flashlight). Day 2: Sky! Day 3: Land and plants! (show green paper). Day 4: Sun, moon, stars. Day 5: Fish and birds! Day 6: Animals... and people! (hold stick figure) God said, 'Let us make man in our image' (Moses 2:26-27). We look like Heavenly Father—special!" Ask, "What did Jesus make next?" Let them guess and wiggle like animals.
Big Idea
Just like Jesus created a beautiful world and us special in Heavenly Father's image (Genesis 1:26-27; Moses 2:26-27), we can say thank you by taking care of it!
Wiggle and Learn Activities
Creation Object Surprise (Object Lesson)
Materials: Basket with toy sun, animal figures, plant picture, mirror.
- Pass basket around; each child picks one item.
- Say what Jesus made: "Jesus made the sun shine!"
- Look in mirror: "We look like Heavenly Father!"
Remind: "Jesus created us special in God's image!" Connects to story—we're touching what He made.
Image Puzzle Fun (Hands-On Craft)
Materials: Paper outlines of simple bodies, crayons, scissors (pre-cut for little ones).
- Color your body like God's special creation.
- Teacher helps mix pieces; kids put puzzle together.
- Say, "See? We are made in Heavenly Father's image (Moses 2:26-27)!"
Remind big idea: "Just like puzzles fit, Jesus made us special to care for His world!" Builds on mirror—we're drawing our special selves.
Find God's Creations Hunt (Physical Activity)
Materials: Hidden pictures of trees, birds, fish around room (or quick outdoor peek).
- "Go find what Jesus created!" (scavenger hunt, 1 minute).
- Bring back and shout: "Jesus made [bird]!"
- Group high-five.
Remind: "We say thank you by caring for God's creations (Genesis 1:28)!" Flows from craft—now we're hunting real things like our pictures.
Body Praise Dance (Music & Movement)
Materials: None.
- March like animals Jesus made.
- Point to eyes, hands: "Made in God's image!"
- Freeze and say one thing you're thankful for.
Remind: "Jesus created everything beautiful, including us!" Connects to hunt—we're moving like His creations.
Picture Time
Show "The Creation" by Annie Henrie Nader from Gospel Art Book.
Ask: "What beautiful things do you see Jesus making?" "How do people look special?" "Who made you?" Helps remember: We are God's special image!
Song and Actions
Sing "My Heavenly Father Loves Me" (Children’s Songbook, 228-29).
Actions: Point up for Father, hug self for "loves me," wiggle fingers for mountains/rivers, touch eyes/nose for "image." "Maybe your children could add to the song other things God has created that help them feel His love."
Jesus Loves Me Moment
Sit close: "Remember, Jesus created the beautiful world and us in Heavenly Father's image! I know Jesus loves you because He made you special. Share: 'I know Jesus loves me because...'" (hugs all around).
Take-Home Hug
Draw one thing Jesus created this week (like a flower) and tell family, "Thank you, Heavenly Father, for making it!"
Teacher Survival Tips
- Time each activity to 3-5 minutes; use a timer toy for fun.
- If wiggles take over, add 10-second "freeze like God's creation" breaks.
- Prep all materials in baskets; flow by saying "Next fun way to remember!" (512 words)
