Open Week 7 in App →Happy Opening (2 minutes): “Rainbow Hello!” (Music & Movement)
Have the children stand in a circle. Hold up a simple paper rainbow (or draw one quickly).
- Say: “When I lift the rainbow, we wave hello! When I lower it, we freeze!”
- Do it 3–4 times quickly.
Say: “Today we’ll learn about Noah, the ark, and God’s promises. And we’ll remember our BIG idea!”
Simple Scripture Story (5 minutes): “Noah Listened and Was Safe” (Interactive + Actions)
Use simple actions and a few pictures (ark, animals, rainbow).
Tell the story in very simple words:
- “In Noah’s day, many people were choosing wrong. The scriptures say the earth was ‘corrupt’ and ‘filled with violence’ (Genesis 6:12–13; Moses 8:28).”
- “Heavenly Father called Noah to be a prophet. Noah tried to help the people.”
- “Noah built an ark. Let’s pretend to hammer!” (Kids “hammer” with fists.)
- “Animals came in! Show me how an elephant walks… now a bunny!”
- “Noah and his family were safe because they followed the Lord’s prophet.”
- “Afterward, God gave a rainbow as a special reminder. God said the rainbow would be ‘the token of the covenant which I make between me and you’ (Genesis 9:12).”
Ask quick questions:
- “What did Noah do when God told him what to do?”
- “How did Noah’s family stay safe?”
- “What do you think the rainbow helped them remember?”
Big Idea (repeat often)
Heavenly Father loves me, and following the prophet helps keep me safe.
(Repeat it together with hand motions: point up for Heavenly Father, hug self for “loves me,” then pretend to walk behind someone for “follow the prophet,” then arms like a roof for “safe.”)
Wiggle and Learn Activities (12–15 minutes total)
1) “Build the Ark!” (Hands-On + Physical Play)
What to do:
- Give children blocks/cups or chairs to “build” a simple ark shape together.
- Let each child add one piece.
Materials: blocks/cups/chairs.
What to say: “Noah followed God’s prophet job. When we follow the prophet, Heavenly Father can help keep us safe.”
Connect: “Now that we built an ark, let’s fill it!”
2) “Animal Walk Parade” (Game + Movement)
What to do:
- Place animal pictures (or small toys) on one side of the room and the “ark” on the other.
- One at a time, children choose an animal and walk it to the ark (like the animal).
Materials: animal pictures/toys.
What to say: “Noah listened and did what God asked. We can listen to the prophet too.”
Connect: “When Noah’s family was safe, God gave them a reminder!”
3) “Rainbow Promise Craft” (Hands-On Craft)
What to do:
- Give each child a paper strip rainbow to color (or a half-circle to color like a rainbow).
- Write (or say) the promise reminder: “God keeps His promises.”
Materials: paper, crayons.
What to say: “God wanted Noah’s family to remember His covenant. The rainbow was ‘the token of the covenant’ (Genesis 9:12).”
Connect: “Let’s use our rainbow to help us remember our BIG idea!”
4) “Follow the Leader: Prophet Path” (Game)
What to do:
- You are the “prophet leader.” Walk a simple path around the room (slow/fast, tiptoe, march).
- Children follow. If someone gets mixed up, gently bring them back into line.
Materials: none.
What to say: “When we follow the prophet, we are choosing a safe path.”
Connect: “Now let’s look at a picture to help our brains remember.”
Picture Time (2–3 minutes)
Show a Gospel Art Book picture of Noah’s Ark (Noah and the ark with animals).
Ask:
- “What do you see?”
- “How do you think Noah’s family felt inside the ark?”
- “What can we do to follow the prophet and be safe?”
Song and Actions (3 minutes)
Sing: “Follow the Prophet” (Children’s Songbook, 110–11), verse about Noah (the lesson bundle suggests the third verse).
Actions:
- March in place on “Follow the prophet.”
- Pretend to hammer on the Noah verse.
- Make “rain” fingers falling down, then make a big rainbow over your head with arms.
Tie to Big Idea: “Following the prophet helps keep me safe.”
Jesus Loves Me Moment (2 minutes)
Sit in a small circle. Hold up the rainbow craft.
Say simply: “In Noah’s story, Heavenly Father helped Noah and his family. Heavenly Father loves you too. Our BIG idea is: ‘Heavenly Father loves me, and following the prophet helps keep me safe.’”
Invite sharing (one sentence each):
“I can be like Noah when I __________.”
(Examples they can choose: listen, obey, be kind, follow.)
Take-Home Hug (10 seconds)
“Show your rainbow to your family and tell them: ‘Heavenly Father keeps His promises.’ Then give someone at home a hug.”
Teacher Survival Tips
- Keep turns fast: for the animal parade, limit each child to one animal, then move on.
- Use the Big Idea as a reset: whenever wiggles grow, stand and do the hand motions while saying the Big Idea together.
- If time runs short, skip straight from the rainbow craft to the song—kids will still feel the lesson through singing and movement.
