Come Follow Me 2026 · Week 46
Family Activities
November 9–15 · Daniel 1–7
This week's one thing
When we stay true to God, He stands with us, and He can deliver us.
Opener: The Rubber Band Test
Read this out loud: 'Your whole team is going to a party after the game, and you know there will be a movie there your family has decided not to watch. Everyone is going. What would you do?' Let each person answer, then have someone stretch one rubber band around a pencil until it feels ready to snap. Next, loop all the rubber bands together and have them try again. Ask: 'Why was the bundle harder to break?'
Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego stood together and trusted God together, and God stood with them in the fire (Daniel 3:25).
Scripture Story
King Nebuchadnezzar builds a giant gold statue. He tells everyone, "When the music plays, bow down and worship it. Anyone who doesn't will be thrown into a burning furnace!" The music plays, and thousands of people bow. Three young men stay standing. Their names are Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. The king is furious. "Bow down, or into the fire you go! What god can save you from me?" The three friends answer calmly. "Our God can save us. But even if He doesn't, we still will not worship your statue." The king makes the furnace seven times hotter. Soldiers tie the friends up and throw them in. Then the king jumps up and shouts, "Didn't we throw in three men? I see four, walking around loose in the fire!" The three friends walk out. Their hair isn't burned, and they don't even smell like smoke. What do you think Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego were feeling when they heard the music start and everyone else bowed?
Discussion Questions
Little Kids (ages 4–7)
- Who was the fourth person in the fire with the three friends?
- What is something hard you did this week because it was the right thing?
Big Kids (ages 8–11)
- Daniel and his friends asked for vegetables and water instead of the king's food (Daniel 1:8–16). Why would choosing food matter so much to them when they were far from home?
- The three friends said, "But if not" (Daniel 3:18). Why would they obey even if God didn't save them from the fire?
Teens
- Daniel kept praying at his open window when he knew it would get him thrown to the lions (Daniel 6:10). When is it right to keep your faith quiet, and when should others be able to see it?
This Week's Challenge
Put a paper 'furnace' on the fridge. Each time someone makes a hard right choice this week, like walking away from a mean joke, turning off a show, or telling the truth when it costs something, they add a small paper flame and write their initials on it. On Sunday, count the flames and let each person tell about one of theirs.
Song Suggestions
Four Men in the Fire Flip Card
Ages 3-10~10 min- 1
Step 1: Fold a sheet of paper in half like a card.
- 2
Step 2: On the front, draw a big furnace with orange and red flames.
- 3
Step 3: Cut a door flap in the front of the furnace, about the size of your palm, and leave one side attached.
- 4
Step 4: Open the card and draw four people standing inside, right behind the door. Make one of them shine bright.
- 5
Step 5: Play a 2-minute draw-it game: one person draws a scene from Daniel (the lions, the statue, the vegetables, the fire) while everyone else guesses.
When the king opened the furnace he saw four men, because the Lord was with His faithful servants in the fire (Daniel 3:25).
