If a youth is teaching

Hand them this

Have this Sunday's lesson open and start with the painting or with Alma 53:20 read out loud. Run only the Scouting Report activity and skip the full battle story. At the end, have someone read the two "Live as a disciple of Christ" questions out loud, then give the quorum the challenge to be true in one thing all week.

Before Sunday

Send this to your class

Sunday: Could you be "true at all times"?

This Sunday the quorum studies the stripling warriors. Open this Sunday's lesson in Gospel Library and read Alma 53:20. Then skim Alma 56:47–48. Ponder: what would it look like for you to be true at all times this week, even when no one is watching?

Opening question

Have everyone open this Sunday's lesson in Gospel Library. Have someone read Alma 53:20 out loud. Ask: "These were young men about your age. Mormon says courage and strength were 'not all.' What else did they have, and why would that matter more than strength?" Let a few answer before you move on. Then ask the question behind the whole lesson: "Who does the Lord want you to become?"

8–10 minutes

True at All Times Scouting Report

Materials: Chalkboard, chalk, Gospel Library phones

  1. 1.This activity is built on the lesson's "True at all times" question: "What helped the stripling warriors become 'true at all times'?" Draw two columns on the board: "Alma 53:14–22" and "Alma 56:44–57."
  2. 2.Split the quorum into two teams, one per passage. With only 3 youth, make one team of two and let the third be the scorekeeper who also searches.
  3. 3.Give teams 3 minutes to find as many things as they can that helped the warriors stay true (examples they might find: covenants, mothers' teaching, faith, obeying with exactness). Each find must come with a verse number.
  4. 4.Teams take turns sending one runner to the board to write one find and read its verse out loud. A repeat or a find without a verse doesn't count. Keep going until someone runs out.
  5. 5.Circle the finds that sound like things a young man could do this week.

Bring it back: Which of these things on the board would help you keep your body sacred, and why?

Teach this first

I am a beloved son of God, and He has a work for me to do

Open this Sunday's lesson and have someone read the "Study together" statement out loud. Then have someone read Alma 53:20 again. The stripling warriors were valiant, and they were also true in whatever they were trusted with, and that is what made them useful servants. The lesson ties humility and virtue to living with respect and reverence for yourself, others, and God.

Ask the class

  • 1.What attributes in Alma 53:20 would make someone a good priesthood servant, and how might they help you in your priesthood duties?
  • 2.What connection do you see between the warriors' example and keeping your body sacred?

If time remains

The Savior helps me keep my body sacred

Open the "Live as a disciple of Christ" section of this Sunday's lesson and have someone read the two questions out loud. Invite the quorum to look back over this month and answer.

Ask the class

  • 1.As you studied the guide this month, what have you learned about how the Savior helps you keep your body sacred?

Close

Reread Alma 53:20 this week. Choose one thing you have been entrusted with, like a priesthood duty, a promise to your family, or a standard you keep with your body. Be true to it every day, even when no one is checking.

Your witness: Share briefly how Jesus Christ has helped you stay true to something you were trusted with, and how that shaped who you became.
