Every calling, ordinance, and assignment you receive traces back to Jesus Christ, and that authority is meant to bless you and everyone you serve.

If a youth is teaching
Open chapter 9 in your Gospel Library app before class starts and keep it open the whole time, you'll have the class read from it, not listen to you talk. Start with one of the two opening options, then go straight to the first Eternal Truth and Matthew 16:18–19; let the discussion questions do the heavy lifting. If you're running short on time, skip the second principle entirely and land on the Invitations, choosing one to live this week is the whole point of Fast Sunday.

Sunday prep: Priesthood keys and YOU
This Fast Sunday we're discussing Chapter 9 of the FSY guide, 'You are blessed by priesthood keys and authority.' Before Sunday, open chapter 9 in the Gospel Library app and read the three Eternal Truths and the Invitations. Ponder this: When have you felt that a Church calling, assignment, or ordinance was more than just a task, that something real from God was in it?

Before we open anything, just think for a second: Has someone ever given you an assignment, a calling, a class presidency responsibility, a ministering assignment, and it turned out to matter more than you expected? What made it feel different from just a chore? Take 30 seconds, then we'll hear a couple of answers. Then open chapter 9 in your Gospel Library app, we'll read the first Eternal Truth together.

Hold up a set of keys, car keys, house keys, anything. Ask: What do keys actually do? They don't do the work themselves, they authorize something. Open chapter 9 in your Gospel Library app and have someone read the first Eternal Truth out loud: 'All priesthood keys and authority come through Jesus Christ.' Now look at whatever keys you're holding. Every ordinance you've received, every calling you've been set apart for, that authority traces back to Him. That's what this chapter is about.
Teach this first
Open chapter 9 in the Gospel Library app and have someone read the Eternal Truth that begins 'Priesthood authority blesses all of God's children.' Then have someone read Matthew 16:18–19 aloud, the Savior giving keys directly to Peter. The chapter explains that because the priesthood was restored, each of us can receive ordinances, make covenants with God, and act in His name when we receive a calling or assignment. This isn't abstract history, it applies to every person in the room.
From For the Strength of Youth: 'Because the priesthood was restored, you can receive ordinances and make covenants with God. You can act in the name of God when you receive an assignment or calling from someone with authority.'

If time allows, open chapter 9 and have someone read the Invitation that begins 'Sustain those who God has called to serve.' The guide clarifies that sustaining means to actually support and help, not just raise your hand.

Last 3–5 minutes
Open chapter 9 in your Gospel Library app and read the Invitations together as a class. Ask each person to silently choose one they'll act on this week, accepting a calling with full effort, fulfilling an assignment as a disciple, or finding a concrete way to sustain a leader. The chapter lists three; you might also feel impressed to name your own.
The FSY guide promises: 'You will become an instrument in the Lord's hands... Jesus Christ is your strength. Your service will help you draw closer to Him and bring you joy.'
Your witness: Share briefly, from your own life, a moment when a calling, assignment, or ordinance felt authorized by something beyond yourself. What did you learn about Jesus Christ through it?
