- Materials: paper heart, crayons or stickers.
- Children decorate a paper heart. Draw a smiley face in the middle for "Jesus loves me."
- Say while they work: "Jesus loves you and helps carry your heavy feelings." Send the heart home. (Not used in the 25-minute class; send home.)
Picture Time
Show "Jesus Christ" or "Jesus with the children" (Jesus Blessing the Nephite Children, Gospel Art Book, no. 84) or a picture of a child praying.
Ask:
- "Who is this? Yes, Jesus!"
- "Does Jesus love you? Yes!"
- "When you feel sad, who can help you feel better?" (Jesus.)
Song and Actions
Sing "Jesus Said Love Everyone" (Children's Songbook, 61) or "Seek the Lord Early" (Children's Songbook, 108).
Simple actions for "Jesus Said Love Everyone":
- "Jesus said love everyone", big arms around the whole room.
- "Treat them kindly too", gentle pat on your own shoulders.
- "Love your neighbor as yourself", hug yourself.
Jesus Loves Me Moment
Gather close and soft. Invite each child to finish one sentence:
- "I know Jesus loves me because..."
- "I feel happy when..."
Then all together, arms heavy then light: "Jesus loves me and helps carry my heavy feelings!"
Take-Home Hug
This week, give someone in your family a big hug. When you hug them, remember: Jesus loves you and helps you feel light and happy.
Teacher Survival Tips
- If wiggles are high, start with Activity 1 (freeze dance) to get the jumps out, then gather close for the story.
- Keep the "heavy to light" arm motion in your back pocket. It works any time attention drifts, and it repeats the Big Idea with their whole bodies.
- If you are short on time, keep the story and ONE wiggle game, then the Jesus Loves Me Moment. Send the heart craft home undone.
