Come Follow Me 2026 · Week 27

Family Activities

June 29–July 5 - 1 Kings 12–13; 17–22

This week's one thing

When I choose the Lord, He helps me trust Him and stand for what is right.

Opener: Hardest or Easiest?

paperpen

Say, "Let’s do a fast family vote. Rank these from hardest to easiest: sharing your last snack, saying sorry, standing alone when others disagree, waiting for help from God." Let each person give their ranking and one short reason. Then say, "This week we read about people who had to choose whether they would follow the Lord when it was hard."

Elijah and the faithful widow show that following the Lord often means trusting Him before we can see the outcome.

Scripture Story

There has been no rain for a long time. The ground is dry, the sky is empty, and everyone is hungry. Elijah stands on Mount Carmel in front of King Ahab, the priests of Baal, and a crowd of people. He says, "How long halt ye between two opinions? if the Lord be God, follow him" (1 Kings 18:21). The priests of Baal build an altar and call for fire all day. Nothing happens. Then Elijah repairs the altar of the Lord. He puts wood on it, lays the sacrifice on top, and tells the people to pour water over everything. Water runs around the altar and fills the trench. Elijah prays, asking God to show the people who He is. Fire falls from heaven. It burns the sacrifice, the wood, the stones, and even the water. The people fall down and say, "The Lord, he is the God" (1 Kings 18:39). What do you think Elijah was feeling when the fire came down?

Discussion Questions

Little Kids (ages 4–7)

  • What would you think if you saw fire come down from heaven?
  • When have you had to wait for food, water, or help?

Big Kids (ages 8–11)

  • Why do you think Elijah asked the people to choose instead of staying in the middle?
  • Why might the widow have shared her last meal with Elijah?

Teens

  • What does it look like now to 'halt between two opinions' in school, online, or with friends, and how do you decide where you stand?

This Week's Challenge

This week, each family member chooses one small act of faith and writes it on a slip of paper, such as saying a prayer before a hard task, sharing something you wanted to keep, or standing up for someone. Put the slips in a cup and read them together on Sunday.

  1. 1

Step 1: Draw a heart on white paper and add a few scribbles or smudges with a washable marker.

  2. 2

Step 2: Wet a paper towel, add one tiny drop of soap, and gently wipe the marks away as much as you can.

  3. 3

Step 3: Say, "When we turn back to the Lord, He helps clean up our hearts and choices," then let each child tell one way they can choose Him this week.

Just as water and soap can clean a mess, the Lord can help us turn back to Him and make clean choices.
