Come Follow Me 2026 · Week 16
Family Activities
April 13–19 - Exodus 14–18
This week's one thing
The Lord makes a way forward when we trust Him in scary moments.
Opener: Flashlight Through the Blanket
Turn off the lights and wrap the flashlight in a blanket so the room stays dim. Ask, "Can you still tell where the light is coming from?" Then unwrap it and shine the beam across the room, and say, "Light is easier to follow when nothing blocks it."
When things feel dark or blocked, trusting the Lord helps us move toward His light one step at a time.
Scripture Story
The Israelites stand with water in front of them and Pharaoh’s army behind them. People press close, holding kids, grabbing bundles. Someone says, “Were there no graves in Egypt?” (Exodus 14:11). Moses lifts his hands and says, “Fear ye not, stand still, and see the salvation of the Lord” (Exodus 14:13). Then the Lord tells him, “Speak unto the children of Israel, that they go forward” (Exodus 14:15). Moses stretches his rod toward the sea. Wind blows all night. By morning, a path opens with walls of water on both sides (Exodus 14:21–22). People step onto wet sand, then faster, then running, looking up at the water like it might fall. They reach the other side and turn back to watch the Lord protect them. What do you think Moses was feeling when he lifted his hand over the sea?
Discussion Questions
Little Kids (ages 4–7)
- If you were walking between two big walls of water, what would you hold onto?
- What helps you feel brave when it is dark at night?
Big Kids (ages 8–11)
- In Exodus 14:15 the Lord says, "Go forward." What is one small "go forward" step you can take when you feel stuck?
- Why do you think the Israelites complained even after seeing miracles?
Teens
- When you are anxious, what does "stand still" look like for you, and what does "go forward" look like, and how do you tell the difference?
This Week's Challenge
Pick one "Red Sea" worry as a family, then do a 3-step plan on paper: 1) one prayer you will say about it each day, 2) one "go forward" action you will take before bedtime, 3) one way you will watch for help. Check in at Sunday dinner and circle any help you noticed.
Song Suggestions
Go-Forward Footprints
Ages 3-10~10 min- 1
Trace one foot (or your hand if that is easier) on paper and cut it out, then make a second one.
- 2
Tape the footprints across the floor in a little path from the hallway to the living room, or from the couch to the table.
- 3
Turn down the lights and use a flashlight to follow the footprints together, then say, "We can go forward step by step."
The Lord told Israel to "go forward" (Exodus 14:15), and He will help us take the next step too.
