Family Activities

March 30–April 5 - Easter

This week's one thing

Jesus Christ suffered, died, and rose again so I can be forgiven and live again.

Opener: The Heavy Backpack Choice

a backpack2-3 booksa rope or thick string

Say: "You have a long walk home and your backpack feels way too heavy." Put the books in the backpack and let one child try it on for five seconds. Then ask: "Would you rather carry it alone, or tie this rope to it and have someone walk beside you and help carry some of the weight?" Tie the rope to the backpack handle and have a second person hold the other end while the first person wears it for five seconds again.

Jesus Christ does not remove our agency, but He shares our burdens through His Atonement and makes a way through death.

Scripture Story

It is early, and the garden is quiet. Jesus steps a little away from His friends and says, "Pray that ye enter not into temptation" (Luke 22:40). He kneels. His voice is low: "Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done" (Luke 22:42). The night feels heavy. Later, soldiers come with torches. Peter reaches for a sword, but Jesus stops him. Jesus is taken away. After the cross, His body is laid in a tomb, and a stone is rolled in front. Then, on the first day of the week, women come early with spices. The stone is moved. Two angels say, "Why seek ye the living among the dead? He is not here, but is risen" (Luke 24:5-6). What do you think Mary was feeling when she saw the tomb open?

Discussion Questions

Little Kids (ages 4–7)

  • What do you remember about the garden where Jesus prayed?
  • If you were sad and someone came to help you, what would you want them to do?

Big Kids (ages 8–11)

  • Why do you think Jesus asked His friends to watch and pray with Him? (Matthew 26:38-41)
  • When have you felt like something was "too hard" and help made it possible to keep going?

Teens

  • Jesus chose to say, "Not my will, but thine" (Luke 22:42). What does that look like in a real decision you face, where the right choice still hurts?

This Week's Challenge

Pick one person each day this week to "walk beside" on purpose: send a text, do a quiet chore for them, or sit with them for five minutes without fixing anything. Put one rubber band on the fridge each time someone does it, then count them on Sunday.

Rubber Band Rescue Heart

Ages 3-10~10 min

  1. 1

Step 1: Draw and cut out a big heart from paper. Draw a simple line down the middle like a crack.

  2. 2

Step 2: Wrap one or two rubber bands around the heart so they cross over the crack and hold the sides together. Tape the rubber bands in place if they slide.

  3. 3

Step 3: Let kids pull gently on the heart and feel it hold. Say one sentence about how Jesus helps us when we feel broken or scared.

Jesus Christ holds us together and heals us through His Atonement, and He will raise us again through His Resurrection.
